The convention of this shot is a mysterious hooded figure, where the audience is unable to decipher their identity, creating enigmas in the narrative. The character is shown using a camera shot from behind them casting a sort of dark shadow over them whilst nor giving the audience any feature to focus on adding to the mystery of the character.
In this scene the character is portrayed in a suit, and is holding a gun. These conventions are quite typical for the thriller genre, specifically spy thrillers like the example shown here. Whilst the gun connotes danger and crime, the suit connotes honest work, two very contrasting ideas. These juxtaposing conventions, paired with the nonchalant attitude that the audience may gather from the character work to create a unique feel of confidence, exuding from the character in the chair
Time stamp (1.05-end) Conventions shown here are low key lighting, eerie music and fast paced editing. An example of this would be at 1.46 where the girl gets dragged down into the depths of the pool to be drowned. This is the peak tension of the clip. The effect of these convention is to create tension and suspense along with enigmas to entice the audience into watching the film.
From 0.25-End Conventions are low key lighting, ominous music, disturbing scenes.
We follow what looks like a therapist who looks into a mysterious smiling condition that people have, causing them to cut their existences short. At 0.37 the audience witnesses a disturbing sight involving a sharp piece of glass. This creates enigmas as the audience begins to wonder what is going on and why did they do what they did. There then begins a series of fast paced editing as the protagonist descends into madness.
Time stamp 3.03-End Use of tracking shot as we follow the protagonist. This helps to put the audience in the shoes of the character. The character adorns a suit and is armed with weaponry, typical of the spy thriller genre. At 3.55, an over the shoulder zoom in shot is used again to put the audience in the place of the character, so they can see what he sees.
